In an effort to provide a safer and secure environment for shoppers, Sunway Malls in the Klang Valley will only allow entry of shoppers who have been fully vaccinated starting tomorrow, 15th September 2021. The decision was made after more economic sectors are allowed to reopen under Phase 2 of the National Recovery Plan (NRP) and the Klang Valley has achieved a high full vaccination rate for its adult population.
Sunway Malls & Theme Parks CEO, HC Chan said the #SaferCommunityTogether initiative aims to collectively raise the safety bar higher by introducing fully vaccinated entry only alongside other safety protocols. In addition to checking the vaccination status, shoppers are only granted entry if their risk status on MySejahtera is showing “low risk” or “casual contact with no symptoms”. Shoppers are still required to wear a face mask at all times and to ensure social distancing.
As outlined by health regulators, a person with a two-dose vaccine such as Pfizer, AstraZeneca and Sinovac is considered fully vaccinated 14 days after receiving the second dose. Meanwhile, individuals with single-dose vaccines such as CanSino bio and Johnson & Johnson are counted as fully vaccinated 28 days after their injection. Shoppers without a digital vaccine certificate may present their physical vaccination card.
Exemptions for individuals with selected conditions
According to Sunway Malls, there are some exemptions to the fully vaccinated entry only rule which includes children aged between 12 to 17 years old, as well as individuals who have a medical condition that does not allow them to get vaccinated. For those who can’t get vaccinated, they can get exempted by showing proof of medical condition such as a doctor’s note or a medical appointment card for verification. Pregnant women who are under 14 weeks or more than 33 weeks of gestation can present their pink book, doctor’s appointment card, or medical letter as proof.
Personal Shopper Services for shoppers who are not fully vaccinated
For shoppers who are partially or not vaccinated against COVID-19, they can opt for the Personal Shopper Service which is available at Sunway Pyramid, Sunway Velocity and Sunway Putra Malls. This can be requested from the respective mall’s team by contacting their chatbot, Facebook Messenger or WhatsApp chat. Users can share a list of items required a day before and the personal shopper can arrange for a self-pickup arrangement.
The fully vaccinated entry-only rule will begin only in the Klang Valley starting tomorrow. The initiative for other Sunway Malls in Penang and Johor will commence at a later date in line with the progression of the vaccination programme. All Sunway Mall employees and retail staff are also checked for their vaccination status and they will wear the “I’m Vaccinated” badge with their own names and serial number to provide greater assurance to shoppers.
KL, Selangor and Putrajaya have been placed under Phase 2 of the NRP since 10th September and there are no more roadblocks in between the states and territories. Cinema operators GSC and TGV are reopening the 16th and 23rd September respectively, and it is only for fully vaccinated adults aged 18 years old and above. If you’re not fully vaccinated yet, here’s a list of things you can and can’t do in the Klang Valley.
