JMGO’s laser TV projector can project a 100″ 4K display from less than 10″ away

JMGO, an up-and-coming Chinese brand, recently put up an Indiegogo campaign for the U2, a 4K tri-color laser TV projector. This is a short-throw projector which can project a 100″ display from just 9.44″ away. In only a few days, the company has surpassed their funding goal by almost 3000% and received more than RM1,100,000 in funding from 151 backers.

Previously, the company has launched two other throw projector campaigns: the O1 and O1 Pro. These two are cheaper, but only have a resolution of 1080p and does not have the laser technology used in U2.

From a design standpoint, the U2 looks both industrial and sleek. It’s not small at all, but it would still be easier to carry than a flat-screen TV. Considering that this product is cheaper than its other competitors, the U2 has a surprisingly premium look with its metallic exterior.

Projected from only 9.44-inches away, the device can project a 100-inch screen in full 4K UHD resolution. Exceeding 159% of IMAX’s color standard, the tri-color laser engine can cover 114% of the BT.2020 color gamut. The U2 has an average brightness of 2400 ANSI Lumens with a peak brightness of 3600 ANSI lumens using Fresnel screen with a gain of 1.5.

Co-created with Dynaudio, the sound system is built into the device itself. Consisting of two full-range speakers and two tweeter speakers, this system is compatible for surround sound as well. To prevent overheating, the JMGO U2 has a dynamic five fan temperature control system that operates at lower than 28dB. which is relatively quiet.

It runs on Luna OS, JMGO’s Android-based operating system. This provides a simple and clean interface with vibrant colors to showcase its color range. According to JMGO, you can preview content in real-time and also switch between external signal sources quickly and easily.

To protect your eyes, the JMGO U2 has a couple built-in functions designed to reduce eye strain. If you are within 40 inches of the light source, the projector will automatically stop playing to reduce the impact on your eyes. It also has blue light reduction to reduce eye strain and the impact on your circadian rhythm.

Pricing and availability

The retail price for the JMGO U2 is 2,999 USD (about RM12,436).

You can get this product earlier and cheaper by supporting their Indiegogo campaign. The current early bird price is 2,099 USD (about RM8,699) and 8 out of 15 have already claimed this offer. Note that the ALR screen shown in the images are sold separately. The early bird price for the U2 and the screen is 2,628 USD ( about RM10,891), and only 2 out of 10 have claimed this offer. Unfortunately, the U2 plus screen bundle only ships to the United States of America, Taiwan, Macao, Hong Kong.

The JMGO U2 standalone device will ship worldwide and is estimated to start shipping October 2021.
