You can buy leaves on Shopee, you know, in case you don’t know where else to find them

This Shopee listing will “leave” you speechless… No, I will not apologise for this. Seller monstwo.store on the shopping platform has already sold 3,200 sets of Indian Almond leaves—priced at RM3.00 for 30 pieces.

To be fair, the Indian Almond leaves, or daun pokok ketapang in Malay, are described as leaves best for betta fish and aquariums. A quick Google search lets me know that these leaves are “a sort of homeopathic remedy to many different ailments and conditions that betta fish can have”.

To “use” the leaves, you would need to drop a few leaves in the tank for your betta fish. The fish would start nibbling on the leaves, use them for cover, or may even lay eggs on them. The leaves will also give the water a quality and condition similar to their natural habitat.

Before placing the leaves in the aquarium, you’re advised to rinse them before use—even after boiling or soaking. Luckily, the seller writes that the leaves sent to you would already be “washed and dried”.

“They are picked from a location free from pollution, so there is no issue with using the leaves rightaway. If you buy lots, don’t forget to seal with so that it doesn’t moisten in the packaging,” wrote monstwo.store.

The leaves are said to give betta fish a “calm environment” and it would also “boost immunity”. The Indian Almond leaves are also said to have properties that “lowers pH levels in the water”.

It’s almost crazy to hear that people have been willingly wanted to buy leaves—as more than 3,000 shoppers have already bought a set of leaves from the seller. But as these leaves are not just regular leaves you can get at the side of the road (unless you have an Indian Almond tree at the side of your own road), it might help make your betta fish happy—which is priceless.

Besides monstwo.store, there are quite a few sellers that have listed the same type of leaves on Shopee—including seller brightbright0816. Some of them have also bottled up the liquid that turns dark after you add in the leaves to water. More than 29,000 bottles of the liquid have already been sold by one seller.

I’ve also brought up the fact that sellers have been selling actual rocks on Shopee, as well. The hefty rocks sold because they claim to be “good for women who just gave birth and are need of relief”.
