As Malaysia celebrates the 64th Merdeka Day today, BMW Malaysia has announced that it has “sold” 64 units of the new BMW iX xDrive40 in just 5 days. This is probably the “fastest-selling” fully electric vehicle in Malaysia at the moment.
When bookings opened on 26th August, BMW was offering the first 50 buyers complimentary charging installation and one-year public charging access. BMW says in the spirit of Merdeka, they are extending the pre-booking offer to the first 100 units on their website. You’ll need to pay a RM5,000 fee to secure your unit.
The iX is BMW’s new pure electric SUV and the xDrive40 is priced from RM419,630 for the base model or from RM472,630 for the Sports variant. For the price, the CBU electric SUV is priced about the same as the locally-assembled BMW X5 xDrive45e plug-in hybrid which is going for RM418,813.85 with the current SST exemption.
Interestingly, BMW Malaysia has not provided any SST-exempted pricing for the iX. The folks at Paul Tan reckons that actual deliveries might only happen sometime next year.
The BMW iX xDrive40 boasts a power output of 322hp and 630Nm of torque. It can sprint from 0-100km/h in 6.1 seconds with a maximum speed of 200km/h. On a full charge, you can get up to 425km of range and it supports DC 150kW fast charging that can do 10% to 80% in 31 minutes. When it’s hooked to a high-power charging station, you can get 100km of range with a quick 8-minute charge.
