Malaysia has recorded 22,070 new COVID-19 cases today which brings the total number of infections to 1,662,913. There are 339 new deaths reported and the death toll is now 15,550.
Out of 339 deaths recorded today, 99 were “Brought-in-Dead”. There are 6,526 COVID-19 deaths recorded in August so far which is an average of 241.7 deaths per day.
The Ministry of Health has reported 21,877 new recoveries and a total of 1,381,668 patients have recovered and been discharged so far. The recovery rate is now 83.09% while the mortality rate is now 0.94%.
There are currently 265,695 active cases remaining that are receiving treatment. ICU cases have dipped slightly to 982 with 470 requiring respiratory support.
Out of the 265,695 new cases today, 15 are imported while 22,055 are transmitted locally. Selangor still records the most with 5,920 cases, followed by Sabah with 3,010 cases, Sarawak with 2,224 cases, Kedah with 2,072 cases and Johor with 1,809 cases.
The Ministry of Health has identified 28 new clusters today. 15 are community clusters and 12 are workplace-related. Below is the breakdown of the number of new clusters by state:
Over 98% of new cases today are category 1 and 2 where individuals exhibit little to no symptoms. 17,029 (77.16%) of new cases today are from people who have not been fully vaccinated.
