Samsung has just announced a new member of the Galaxy M-series of midrange devices in India, the Galaxy M32 5G. While it may seem like a minor refresh of the Galaxy M32, it actually packs quite a number of differences over its similarly named sibling. In fact, it’s more akin to the Galaxy A32 5G that launched here back in March
For a start, the Galaxy M32 has a 6.5-inch, HD+ Infinity-V TFT display, with a 720 x 1600 pixel resolution. No fancy refresh rate here either as it tops out at a standard 60Hz refresh rate. These are the same specs as those found on the local Galaxy A32 5G.
Underneath, you’ll find a MediaTek Dimensity 720 system-on-chip that’s mated to either 6GB or 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. There’s also Samsung’s One UI 3.1 skin on top of Android 11, and you get two years of OS upgrades.
Camera-wise, there’s surprisingly no square camera bump that’s almost always on Galaxy M-series devices; again we find a camera setup similar to that of the Galaxy A32. You get a 48MP main shooter surrounded by an 8MP ultrawide lens, a 5MP macro lens and a 2MP depth sensor. On the front of the device, there’s a 13MP selfie camera.
Other features of note include a 5,000mAh battery with 15W fast charging, a 3.5mm audio jack, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor and an external microSD card slot. The Galaxy M32 5G comes in two colours: Slate Black and Sky Blue.
The Galaxy M32 5G has so far only been available in India, with an Amazon India listing for the device stating that it’ll go on sale on the 2nd of September. There’ll be two versions available, and users of certain Indian banks get a ₹2,000 discount too.
Galaxy M32 5G, 6GB RAM, 128GB storage — ₹ 20,999 (~RM 1,186.09)
Galaxy M32 5G, 8GB RAM, 128GB storage — ₹ 22,999 (~RM 1,299.06)
It should be noted though that if Samsung does indeed opt to release the Galaxy M32 5G elsewhere, it might end up with some different specs underneath. The base Galaxy M32 for instance released in India with 6GB of RAM and a 6,000mAh battery, but Malaysians buying the Galaxy M32 here would find 8GB of RAM instead, with a smaller 5,000mAh battery too. Nevertheless, seeing as it’s more or less a rebadged version of the Galaxy A32 5G, it’s hard to say if it’ll ever be released here.
Besides, at this price point, it may struggle against the likes of the Poco M3 Pro 5G. It’s among the cheapest 5G-ready phones in Malaysia but offers some choice upgrades over the Galaxy M32 5G such as an FHD+ display and faster 18W charging, though it does have a mildly weaker Dimensity 700 SoC.
