Malaysia has recorded a new record high for new cases and deaths in a single day. There are 24,599 new COVID-19 cases today which brings the total number of infections to 1,640,843. There are 393 new deaths reported and the death toll is now 15,211.
Out of 393 deaths, 99 are non-citizens and there are a total of 100 “Brought-in-dead” (50 citizens and 50 non-citizens) today. Sarawak, Labuan, Perlis and Putrajaya recorded zero deaths today.
In August alone, there are a total of 6,187 COVID-19 deaths recorded so far which is an average of 238 deaths per day.
The Ministry of Health has reported 22,657 new recoveries and a total of 1,359,791 patients have recovered and discharged so far. The recovery rate is now 82.87% while the mortality rate is now 0.93%.
There are currently 265,841 active cases remaining that are receiving treatment. 990 are in ICU while 487 require respiratory support.
Out of the 24,599 new cases today, 8 are imported while 24,591 are transmitted locally. Selangor still tops the list with 6,936 cases, followed by Sabah with 3,487 cases, Johor with 2,785 cases, Pulau Pinang with 2,078 cases and Sarawak with 2,024 cases.
97.3% of 24,599 cases today are category 1 and 2 where newly infected individuals exhibit little or no symptoms. 19,761 or 80% of new cases today are from individuals that have not been fully vaccinated.
