This TV plays Simpsons episodes at random, and it’s also really tiny

Reddit user buba447 posted a working tiny Simpsons-themed television that they designed and printed. The TV even has working dials, and will play episodes of The Simpsons at random.

“(It) plays the first 11 seasons at random without internet. Knobs work too,” wrote buba447.

The maker also shared its tech aspects to his creation. The tiny TV itself was designed in Fusion 360 and printed using an Ender-3 Pro from Creality. Inside, you’ll find a Raspberry Pi Zero running Jessie Lite—connected to the 640×480 display.

The dials—or knobs, as he calls it—are wired for functionality, as well. The top button switches the screen on and off, while the bottom button is connected to the speaker inside. When you switch the TV on, its 32GB SD Card will load a random compressed episode from 11 seasons of The Simpsons.

“The episodes were all compressed specifically for the screen and loaded onto the SD card. When the pi is powered up, through the USB port on the back of the tv, it starts playing episodes at random. When on episode ends the next is randomly selected,” continued buba447.

The post received 113k upvotes on Reddit after buba447 shared it a day ago. Other Reddit users celebrated the post, commenting that this tiny TV is “impressive” and “is the exact reason why both 3D printers and Raspberry Pis were invented”.

The maker also said that they will provide a “detailed build guide in a week or so” for anyone who wants to make their own. You can follow bubba447 for his follow-up post on Reddit.

I can’t wait until users take the upcoming guide and try to build other pop culture related tiny TVs, but there isn’t any other TV set as iconic as the Simpsons’ TV set. Maybe a tiny boxy 90s TV with random episodes of Friends? Who knows, but it just cool to know that people are putting their skills into making really cool stuff.
