COVID-19: New cases dip to 17,672 today, 70% of cases are from outside the Klang Valley

Malaysia has recorded 17,672 new COVID-19 cases today which brings the total number of infections to 1,572,765. This is the lowest number of new cases recorded in 24 hours since 10th August 2021. There are 174 new deaths reported and the death toll is now 14,342. The Ministry of Health has reported 21 “Brought-in-Dead” today.

The Ministry of Health has reported 19,053 new recoveries and a total of 1,297,723 patients have recovered and been discharged so far. The recovery rate is now 82.51% while the mortality rate is now 0.91%.

There are currently 260,700 active cases remaining that are receiving treatment. 1,040 are in ICU while 502 require respiratory support.

Out of the 17,672 new cases today, 8 are imported while 17,664 are transmitted locally. Selangor and Kuala Lumpur are showing a decline in the number of new cases and 70% of new cases are from outside the Klang Valley. Selangor still tops the list with 4,316 cases, followed by Sabah with 2,474 cases, Kedah with 1,602 cases, Sarawak with 1,538 cases, Penang with 1,451 cases and Johor with 1,367 cases.

The Ministry of Health has identified 30 new clusters today and 18 are workplace-related. 97.6% of new COVID-19 cases today are category 1 and 2 where individuals exhibit little to no symptoms. 14,337 out of 17,672 (81.13%) of new cases are from people who have not been fully vaccinated.
