COVID-19: 233 deaths and record-high 23,564 new cases today, Sabah and Sarawak record over 2,500 cases each

Malaysia has recorded 23,564 new COVID-19 cases today which is a new record high. This brings the total number of infections to 1,513,024. There are 233 new deaths reported and the death toll is now 13,713. In August so far, there are 4,689 COVID-19 deaths which is an average of 234 deaths per day.

The Ministry of Health has reported 21,448 new recoveries and a total of 1,241,894 patients have recovered and discharged so far. The recovery rate is now 82.08% while the mortality rate is at 0.91%.

There are currently 257,417 active cases remaining that are receiving treatment. 1,062 are in ICU while 518 require respiratory support.

Out of the 23,564 new cases today, 23 are imported while 23,541 are transmitted locally. Selangor still tops the list with 6,974 cases, followed by Sabah with 2,738 cases, Sarawak with 2,548 cases, Kedah with 1,932 cases and Kuala Lumpur with 1,652 cases.

The Ministry of Health has identified 38 new clusters today and 22 of them are workplace-related.

98.2% of new cases reported today are classified as Category 1 and 2 where individuals exhibit little to no symptoms. 19,362 or 82.17% of total cases are from people who have not completed their COVID-19 vaccination.
