Four months after the Galaxy A52 5G was released, Samsung just announced the A52s 5G, an updated version of the mid-range smartphone. The announcement was understated, but this phone did have its share of leaks and speculations. Unfortunately, there does not seem to be much of a difference between the A52s 5G and the previous version.
Most of the phones’ characteristics are the same, from the overall design to the hardware. The Galaxy A52s 5G features a 6.5″ Full HD+ AMOLED display that pushes a 120Hz refresh rate.
The main difference is the chipset, replacing the old Snapdragon 750G 5G chipset with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G 5G SoC. The new 6nm-based Snapdragon 778G chip is expected to provide better performance and efficiency than the 8nm Snapdragon 750G. The new chip uses Kryo 670 CPU cores and an Adreno 642L GPU. For comparison, the older 750G chip uses Kyro 570 cores paired with Adreno 619 GPU.
The device is configured with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. If you need more, you can expand it further via a microSD card up to 1TB of storage.
The rear of the phone features a quad camera system including a 64MP main camera, 5MP macro, 5MP depth, and a 12MP ultra-wide camera. Meanwhile, the front of the device holds a 32MP selfie camera.
The Galaxy A52s 5G gets a 4,500mAh battery and it supports 25W fast charging via USB-C. It gets IP67-rated water and dust resistance, making it able to withstand submersion up to 1 metre deep of water for up to 30 minutes.
‘Awesome Mint’ is the new colour and seemingly the only other difference we can find. It will be replacing ‘Awesome Blue’ in the array of available colours including black, white, and violet.
The Galaxy A52s 5G features stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos enhancement.
In the UK, pre-orders will start on August 24th and will ship from the 3rd of September. The current listed price is GBP 409 (about RM2,380), being only GBP 10 (about RM52) more than the A52 5G. At the moment, there are no pricing and availability details for Malaysia yet.
