Redmi 10 Malaysia: Everything you need to know

Having been leaked early just last week, Xiaomi finally confirms the arrival of the Redmi 10 in Malaysia. The Redmi 10, as is the norm with the Redmi lineup, is an entry-level device, but offers some seriously good features despite its price.

Redmi 10 specs

Starting off with the basics, the Redmi 10 comes with 6.5-inch, FHD+ DotDisplay screen that’s capable of up to a 90Hz refresh rate with AdaptiveSync technology that automatically adjusts the refresh rate to balance battery life and content consumption. It also has Reading Mode 3.0 to help ensure your eyes don’t get tired as you go scroll through your device.

Underneath, you’ll find a MediaTek Helio G88 system-on-chip, the first smartphone to feature this SoC. It’ll be mated to either 4GB of RAM with 64GB storage, or a higher spec model with 6GB of RAM and 128GB storage. And as expected for a Redmi phone, you’ll get MIUI 12.5 pre-installed on the Redmi 10.

The real highlight of the Redmi 10 though is undoubtedly the camera. Unlike most other devices in its price point, the Redmi 10 comes with a 50MP, f/1.8 main camera that’s flanked by an 8MP ultra-wide angle shooter, a 2MP macro lens and another 2MP depth sensor. On the front, you get an 8MP selfie camera that’s also capable of panorama selfies too.

Other features include a 5,000mAh battery with 18W fast charging, 9W reverse wired charging via OTG and a 22.5W charger in the box too. There’s also a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, NFC support, dual SIM and microSD storage slots, stereo speakers and a 3.5mm audio jack. The Redmi 10 comes in three different colourways: Carbon Gray, Pebble White and Sea Blue.

Pricing and availability

As mentioned earlier, there’ll be two variants of the Redmi 10 available in Malaysia. They’ll be made available for purchase on the official Xiaomi store on Lazada and Shopee on the 20th of August onwards. Alternatively, you can also find it on sale in-person at authorised Mi Stores and other retailers in Malaysia.

Redmi 10, 4GB RAM, 64GB storage — RM 649

Redmi 10, 6GB RAM, 128GB storage — RM 749

Curiously, the Redmi 10 does seem to rival another Xiaomi sub-brand device— the Poco M3. The Poco M3 may not have the Redmi’s impressive 50MP shooter, but it certainly comes close with a 48MP main camera and an 8MP selfie camera. Powering the Poco M3 is the Snapdragon 662, and for its retail price of RM599, you may have a tough time deciding between the two.
