COVID-19: 19,257 cases and 210 deaths today, nearly 1,400 deaths reported in one week

Malaysia has recorded 19,257 new COVID-19 cases today which brings the total number of infections to 1,243,852. There are 210 new deaths reported and the death toll is now 10,389. A total of 1,365 COVID-19 deaths have been reported in the first week of August, which is an average of 195 deaths per day.

The Ministry of Health has reported 16,323 new recoveries and a total of 1,009,343 patients have recovered and discharged so far. The recovery rate is now 81.15% while the mortality rate is now 0.84%.

There are currently 224,120 active cases remaining that are receiving treatment. 1,097 are in ICU while 575 require respiratory support.

Out of the 19,257 new cases today, 16 are imported while 19,241 are transmitted locally. Selangor recorded the most with 7,084 cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur with 2,450 cases, Kedah with 1,514 cases, Sabah with 1,255 cases and Johor with 1,182 cases.

The Ministry of Health has identified a total of 36 new clusters today. 18 are workplace-related followed by 15 community-related clusters. Below is the breakdown of the number of clusters by state:

Over 96% of new COVID-19 cases reported today are classified as category 1 and 2 where individuals exhibit little or no symptoms. 15,079 out of 19,257 (78.30%) cases reported today are from unvaccinated people.
