Oppo Malaysia has just launched the Oppo Reno 6 and Reno 6 Z today in a virtual event on their Facebook page. The two phones will be made available for pre-order today to the 13th of August.
Oppo Reno 6 Z Specs
The Oppo Reno 6 Z features a 6.4-inch punch-hole AMOLED screen with a 90.8% screen-to-body ratio. No fancy high refresh rates though as it’s limited to just 60Hz. You’ll find a MediaTek Dimensity 800U system-on-chip underneath mated to 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.
If the 8GB of RAM isn’t enough, you can use Oppo’s RAM Expansion feature to use up to 5GB of storage as RAM when needed. There’s also support for additional storage via an external SD card. It supports 5G and comes with Oppo’s ColourOS Android 11 skin.
In the camera department, the Reno 6 Z has a triple camera setup on the rear. It’s main 64MP sensor is flanked by an 8MP ultrawide angle sensor and a 2MP macro lens with it. For selfies, you get a 32MP front camera. The Reno 6 Z has a bokeh flare function for portrait shots as well as a dual-view video feature where you can shoot videos using both the front and rear cameras at the same time.
There’s a 4,310mAh battery with support for 30W VOOC Flash Charge 4.0 in the Reno 6 Z. Other features include an in-display fingerprint sensor, a USB-C port for charging, a headphone jack and reverse charging functionality via USB OTG. The Oppo Reno 6 Z comes in either Aurora or Stellar Black.
Oppo Reno 6 Specs
Featuring what Oppo calls the ‘ultra-slim retro design’ reminiscent of the Apple iPhone 12, the Oppo Reno 6 has a 6.4-inch full HD AMOLED display that has a 90Hz refresh rate. Powering the device is the more powerful MediaTek Dimensity 900 mated to 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Just like the Reno 6 Z, the Reno 6 is also able to use Oppo’s RAM Expansion technology to use up to 5GB of storage as additional RAM. It is a 5G-capable device and as usual, the Reno 6 will come with ColorOS based on Android 11 out of the box.
Camera-wise, there’s a triple camera setup on the rear with a 64MP main sensor doing the brunt work. It gets flanked by an 8MP ultrawide angle camera and a 2MP macro lens. On the front, you get a 32MP selfie camera. According to Oppo, the Reno 6 will not only have portrait mode bokeh flare, but also while you’re shooting video with it which is a feature the Reno 6 Z lacks. The Reno 6 also has the new AI Highlight Video feature which can detect ambient lighting to optimise your footage accordingly.
Keeping the lights on is a 4,300mAh battery that supports 65W SuperVOOC 2.0 fast charging. Other features of note include WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2 connectivity, an in-display fingerprint scanner, a USB-C port for charging and support for reverse charging via USB OTG. The Reno 6 also has certification for HD Netflix and Amazon Prime Video for users into streaming content, but unfortunately there’s no 3.5mm audio jack. The Reno 6 will come in two colours, Stellar Black and Aurora.
Price and availability
Both the Oppo Reno 6 and Reno 6 Z will be available for pre-order from today onwards till the 13th of August. The Reno 6 is priced at RM2,399 while the Reno 6 Z is available for RM1,699.
If you opt to pre-order them, you’ll get free gifts worth up to RM779 too. These include a pair of Oppo Enco Buds, a year’s worth of HeyTap Cloud Service, a power bank, a smart tag and a Bluetooth Speaker. If you’re a member of the My Oppo App, you’ll also get a limited RM100 promo code for these devices as well as a RM30 Shopee voucher to use when pre-ordering these smartphones. You can pre-order the Reno 6 and Reno 6 Z via the Oppo Store as well as from their flagship stores on Shopee, Lazada and their authorised dealers and telco partners.
These devices though are likely not going to be targeting those seeking a more value-oriented device. For the asking price of these phones, you can get better bang-for-buck devices such as the Poco F3 that launched at RM1,299 with a Snapdragon 870 SoC underneath. Alternatively, there’s also the Samsung Galaxy A52 with a Snapdragon 750 SoC available for RM1,499. However, the Oppo devices could still tempt you if you’re in the market for the camera features that they offer.
