COVID-19: 165 deaths and record-high 17,786 new cases today, death toll exceeds 9,000

Malaysia has recorded 17,786 new COVID-19 cases today which is a new record-high. This brings the total number of infections to 1,113,272. There are 165 new deaths reported and the death toll is now 9,024. A total of 3,854 COVID-19 deaths have been recorded in July alone which is an average of 124.3 deaths per day.

The Ministry of Health has reported 11,718 new recoveries and a total of 914,639 patients have recovered and been discharged so far. The recovery rate is now 82.16% while the mortality rate is now 0.81%.

There are currently 189,609 active cases remaining that are receiving treatment. 1,062 are in ICU while 534 require respiratory support.

Out of the 17,786 new cases today, 9 are imported while 17,777 are transmitted locally. Selangor tops the list with 6,400 cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur with 1,962 cases, Kedah with 1,389 cases, Johor with 1,144 cases and Sabah with 1,035 cases.

The Ministry of Health has identified 28 new clusters today and 13 are workplace-related. Below is the breakdown of clusters by states.

98.5% of new cases today are classified as category 1 and category 2 where individuals exhibit little or no symptoms. 14,743 out of 17,786 (82.89%) cases are people that have not been vaccinated.
