Samsung Malaysia has officially introduced its Galaxy XCover 5 for the local market. Launched globally a couple of months ago, the Galaxy XCover 5 is a rugged device for tough work environments while maintaining a compact form factor that’s easy to hold and use even with gloves on.

The MIL-STD810H certified device comes with enhanced shock absorption elements that can withstand drops from up to 1.5 metres. With IP68-rated dust and water resistance, the phone can also survive being submerged under over a metre deep of water for more than 30 minutes.

In terms of specs, this is quite an entry-level device. It gets a modest 5.3″ HD+ (1480×720 pixels) LCD display and it runs on an 8nm Exynos 850 chip. Since it’s designed to be used in construction sites and factories, the screen offers increased touch sensitivity so that you can use it with wet hands or while wearing gloves. The device is equipped with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage which is expandable via microSD card up to 1TB.

For taking pictures, it gets a single 16MP main camera with dual-LED flash. The device also gets a 5MP front shooter for selfies and video calls. For instant communication, the Galaxy XCover 5 also supports Push-to-talk solutions including the Microsoft Teams platform. The dedicated XCover button can be customised to switch on the LED flashlight, make emergency calls or launch maps.

For greater peace of mind, the device comes equipped with Samsung’s Knox Suite and they are offering security maintenance updates for up to 5 years after the global launch. Powering the device is a 3,000mAh battery which is removable and it charges via USB-C.

The bottom of the device comes with POGO connectors which allow companies to charge multiple devices one go with a special dock. The device supports NFC and it also retains a 3.5mm headphone jack.

According to Samsung Malaysia, the Galaxy XCover is currently offered only for business and enterprise customers. There are no pricing details at the moment and interested parties may contact Samsung Malaysia.
