Garmin Forerunner 55 smartwatch now available for RM960

Garmin Malaysia has announced the local availability of their new Garmin Forerunner 55 smartwatch. Targeted towards fitness enthusiasts, it is their easy-to-use GPS smartwatch that helps users track stats and personal fitness goals.

The Forerunner 55 has a 1.05-inch display with a 208 x 208 resolution, with the screen featuring transflective memory-in-pixel technology so that you can always see it even in the bright outdoors. The smartwatch itself weighs 37g, and has a sleek finish to it.

The main feature is the built-in GPS tracker. Not only does it log down where you’ve been, it also tracks how far and how fast you are as you do your runs. You can have it send your location as you run to your loved ones too. It also has all-day activity tracking to count your steps, caloric intake, heartrate and sleep time among others. If you’re not sure on how to exercise, you can also have the Forerunner 55 suggest personalised daily workouts to you, helping users take the guesswork out of planning a fitness schedule.

For runners especially, the PacePro feature helps you nail down your run to a specific course or distance. It’ll also alert you if you’re out of your target cadence range. On top of that, the Forerunner 55 has other built-in workout profiles too, such as swimming, pilates, track running and high-intensity interval training.

Intended to be a smartwatch you can use 24/7, you can get up to two weeks of battery life on the Forerunner 55 if you switch it to smartwatch mode. Alternatively, if you set it to GPS mode for a run, you can have up to 20 hours of battery life. The Forerunner 55 can also receive your texts and let you see your social media and email notifications.

Furthermore, if you set it up with the Garmin Connect app, you can automatically upload your activity log to it. Women can also track their menstrual cycle or pregnancy with the app. If you want to customise your Forerunner 55 meanwhile you can do that too. The IQ Store in the app lets you get custom watch faces and data fields as well as apps for your smartwatch.

Pricing and availability

The Garmin Forerunner 55 is available now in Malaysia, with the suggested retail price of RM 960 and comes in four colour options: black, white, grey and aqua. You can find it on sale on Lazada and Shopee as well as the AECO e-store, along with all other Garmin authorised resellers.
