COVID-19: Malaysia records 7,749 recoveries on Jun 12, highest ever in a day but death rate is still worrying

Malaysia has recorded 6,849 new COVID-19 cases today which brings the total number of infections to 646,411. There are 84 new deaths reported and the death toll is now 3,768.

The Ministry of Health has reported 7,749 new recoveries which is a new record-high and a total of 563,779 patients have recovered and discharged so far. Recoveries have outnumbered new cases for 5 days straight. The recovery rate is currently at 87.22% while the mortality rate is now 0.58%.

There are currently 78,864 active cases remaining that are receiving treatment. 912 are in ICU while 458 require respiratory support.

Out of the 6,849 new cases today, 4 are imported while 6,845 are transmitted locally. Selangor recorded the most with 2,558 cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur with 884 cases, Sarawak with 699 cases and Negeri Sembilan with 685 cases.

The Ministry of Health has identified 16 new clusters and 12 are workplace-related. Below is the list of newly identified clusters:
