TikTok has become the social media platform of choice for many, especially Gen Zs, where they can create and watch (and binge) short-form videos. Unfortunately, with more and more people signing up for the app, cases of users being harassed by TikTok bullies have also been on the rise.
As such, TikTok have just launched a new community management feature to give users more control over the engagement with their content. This feature lets you bulk delete the comments you get or even report the users who you think may have violated it’s community guidelines in batches of up to 100 at a time.
To do so, you can long-press on a comment or alternatively tap the pencil icon at the top left corner for more options. Then, you can select up to 100 comments or users to delete or report instead of doing so manually one by one.
This comes on top of previous efforts by the platform to encourage a kinder and more welcoming community in an attempt to tackle the TikTok bullies; they had just recently allowed users to filter all comments so that people could determine what appears on their content. TikTok had also introduced a comment-prompt feature before that that would encourage users to think again before leaving any unkind comments on another user’s video.
Other efforts by TikTok to improve the community include an option for users aged 13-17 to add extra safeguards on their accounts that would provide a more age-appropriate experience when on the app.
“People put their hearts and souls into creating and entertaining on TikTok, and we recognise how discouraging it can feel to receive unkind comments on videos.
“We hope this update helps creators feel more empowered over their TikTok experience, and hold their fellow TikTok community members accountable for their actions on the platform,” – Joshua Goodman, Director of Product, Trust and Safety at TikTok
TikTok’s internal Trust and Safety team, in charge of enforcing the app’s Community Guidelines, will also be getting extra support, as the company have also become a Trust and Safety Professional Association (TSPA) partner. The partnership with TSPA allows them to better keep users safe while using the app.
As for the new bulk deleting and reporting feature, it has just begun rolling out in certain regions, and will cover more users over the coming weeks. If you don’t have this feature yet on your TikTok app, you may try updating the app through the Play Store or App Store to get the latest build of the app.
