iPhone 11 users report improved battery capacity after iOS 14.5’s battery recalibration process

One of the new features to expect from iOS 14.5 is a new Battery Health recalibration process that was spotted on a recent beta release. This supposedly fixes a bug which causes some iPhone 11 units to unexpectedly drain battery and have reduced peak performance.

Benjamin Mayo of 9to5Mac has recently tweeted that his iPhone 11 Pro’s Maximum Capacity has increased from 86% to 90% after he completed the battery calibration. Another user has also reported that his Maximum Capacity has jumped from 90% to 98%.

The battery bug causes inaccurate battery health recording and this may cause battery life issues for selected number of users. The battery health recalibration might take a few weeks to be completed. If the recalibration is not successful, Apple may offer a free battery replacement to restore full battery performance and capacity for your iPhone.

In case you didn’t know, you can view your battery’s Maximum Capacity under Settings > Battery > Battery Health. This will show how much battery capacity is currently available relative to when it was purchased brand new. The battery health feature was first introduced in 2018 and it will let users know if their iPhone is being throttled due to a degraded battery. If it’s running fine, it will show “Peak Performance Capacity”.

Apple is having a “Spring Loaded” event next week and there’s a chance that they might reveal more details of iOS 14.5’s availability.
