New leaked renders of the Huawei P50 seemingly confirm the gigantic camera bump

I’m not too sure if I really like where smartphone designs are going these days. Camera bumps are becoming more and more of a stylistic statement, and if unofficial images are anything to go by, Huawei’s upcoming P50 series might feature one of the loudest designs I’ve seen in awhile. A number of weeks back, we covered an earlier leak that showed off the new gigantic camera bump on the back of purported renders of the Huawei P50 and P50 Pro.

Now, more leaked images have surfaced that corroborate that prior information, with renders based on leaked schematics of the vanilla Huawei P50 now available. Compared to the photos we’ve seen before, the latest renders give us a closer look at the camera lenses within the (gigantic, in case you forget) camera bump.

Have a look at the photos, courtesy of Waqar Khan:

There looks to be four colourways that will be available: black, rose gold, white, and green, while as expected, we should be seeing a centrally-placed hole-punch cutout up front. The Huawei P50 is also rumoured to come with a 1″ Sony IMX800 sensor, and while previous images only showed two large cameras, it now appears that we’ll be getting quad cameras housed within two large, circular bumps.

Other possible specs include a Kirin 9000 chipset, as well as a 6.3″ display and a rear glass panel. There should also be a P50 Pro and P50 Pro+, in addition to the vanilla P50, that isn’t pictured here. However, one of the most interesting things about the Huawei P50 series is that we expect to see the company’s proprietary operating system, HarmonyOS, out of the box.

This is, of course, Huawei’s alternative to Android—the one that the Chinese company has been talking about since 2019. There have been some negative feedback from beta testers, but Huawei has already confirmed that the OS will debut on the foldable Huawei Mate X2 in April. However, we do expect to see the Huawei P50 series launching with HarmonyOS, although a launch has reportedly been delayed to the middle of the year.

In any case, what do you think? Yay or nay on the camera design?
