The National Security Council has announced that the private sector is allowed to operate with 100% capacity for management staff starting from 1st April 2021. Meanwhile, for the public sector, the attendance is dependent on the issued circular or orders from the public service department (JPA).

Prior to this, essential businesses are permitted to operate but only 30% of the management staff are allowed to work at the office. This means, the remaining staff have to work from home.

The move to allow 100% capacity for management, operational and support staff was suggested by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI). According to the Ministry, Work from Home arrangements were difficult to implement as some operations can’t be managed remotely. The next justification is that manufacturing operations often require complex and technical processes and it requires several teams which require the involvement of management and supervisory staff at the same time. Lastly, the lifting of the 30% limit will allow businesses to operate at 100% capacity.

According to Ismail Sabri, any questions on the new arrangement can be forwarded to MITI for further clarification. For government servants, they are urged to follow the latest circular on the upcoming work arrangements.

The current CMCO and RMCO status has been extended until 14th April 2021. During this period, interstate travel is still not permitted. However, “Green travel bubble” between RMCO areas is still allowed with MOTAC registered travel agencies.
