Malaysia will begin Phase 2 of the National COVID-19 Immunisation programme from 19th April 2021. This will cover 9.4 million people which include senior citizens, people with chronic diseases and people with disability.

This was shared during today’s vaccination update by the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Khairy Jamaluddin. He added that a notification will be sent to those who are eligible from 5th April via MySejahtera, phone call and SMS. Eligible recipients will be informed two weeks before their appointment.

Phase 2 is scheduled to run from April until August 2021. This will include remaining frontliners such as those working in essential services, defence and security personnel. Senior citizens are defined as individuals who are aged 60 years old and above, while high-risk group individuals with chronic diseases include those who have heart disease, obesity, diabetes and high blood pressure. Also included in Phase 2 are people with disabilities (OKU).

As of yesterday (28th March), a total of 580,765 doses have been administered under Phase 1. A total of 129,110 individuals have completed their vaccination with two doses, while 322,545 individuals have only received their first jab.
