All the noise has been around the OnePlus 9 series, which is set to debut on the global stage tomorrow. For users of certain older OnePlus phones, however, some good news has surfaced ahead of time: the Android 11 update is finally becoming available to users of the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7T series. Previously, the OxygenOS 11 build was pushed to the OnePlus Nord, along with the OnePlus 8 lineup of flagship phones.
The update for the OnePlus 7T and 7T Pro was announced on the official OnePlus forums, with the full changelog as follows:
OnePlus has confirmed that the OTA update will be released in stages, with a limited number of users first given the update to ensure that there are no “critical bugs”. Then, a broader rollout of the update will happen over the next couple of days. The rollout is not based on regions, and is instead being randomly sent to various devices. This means that using a VPN will not help you get the update quicker, so keep in mind that you’ll have to be patient.
Meanwhile, XDA Developers has confirmed that the global update is also similarly being pushed in stages to the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro, which should come as good news to users of the old(er) flagships from the company.
On the flip side, Phone Arena reports that there have been a substantial number of complaints about the new OxygenOS 11 update, primarily focusing on the camera app. However, these bugs will likely be ironed out in future updates—or before a wider release is rolled out—and the update will also have the February 2021 security patch for Android.
On my OnePlus 7T Pro in Malaysia, I have yet to receive the update as of the time of writing. If you’ve gotten the update, do share the information with us in the comments below—along with your experience with any possible bugs or issues. Check if you’ve received the update by opening Settings > System > System updates.
