A sneak peak at the OnePlus 9 series’ Hasselblad cameras is now available

The OnePlus 9 series will launch globally on the 23rd of March 2021—just over a week from now. Besides the specs you’d expect form a flagship Android device in 2021, one of the most discussed aspects of the upcoming series is the new Hasselblad partnership for OnePlus’ cameras.

Now, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau (as he often does) has shared a teaser on his official Twitter account. The teaser is made up of two sample shots from the OnePlus 9 series’ cameras—along with the suggestion that both main and ultra-wide cameras will use “equally powerful” sensors.

Lau doesn’t reveal anything else here, not even if the phones were taken on a vanilla version of the OnePlus 9 or a OnePlus 9 Pro. Regardless, it’s pretty clear that OnePlus’ focus for their upcoming flagship series will centre around the capabilities of the phones’ cameras. Similar to previous releases, the company has also released a documentary series to cover the development of their latest product, with the first episode focusing on the budding Hasselblad relationship.

In any case, the new partnership is supposed to offer a variety of improvements to OnePlus’ smartphone cameras—which haven’t been bad per se, but they’ve certainly lagged behind the big players (Apple, Samsung, Huawei) in the years gone by. New software optimisation is now supposed to improve colour tuning and sensor calibration, while there will also be something called “Hasselblad Pro Mode”.

This mode, according to OnePlus, will offer class-leading sensor calibration on a smartphone, offering incredibly accurate and natural colours. As per its name, the mode will also have more flexibility and control for professional photographers , while the mode will allow for 12-bit RAW format to be used as well. As for hardware, we’ll be seeing a Sony IMX789 sensor—which will be the largest and most advanced sensor on any of OnePlus’ phones. ‘

Other expected features include a Snapdragon 888, a 6.78″ QHD+ display, and a 120Hz refresh rate. We’re expecting to see a OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro released at launch, but there is also the possibility of an affordable option within the range: the OnePlus 9R. The extent of Hasselblad’s input into the OnePlus 9 series isn’t yet fully clear, but if they can get close to replicating the Huawei-Leica partnership, this certainly has potential.

So, what do you think? As always, the team will have the full coverage on the OnePlus 9 series when it becomes available—so be sure to keep SoyaCincau.com bookmarked for the 23rd of March 2021.
