COVID-19: 2,764 new cases today, lowest recorded since 11 January

Malaysia has recorded 2,764 new COVID-19 cases today which brings the total number of infections to 248,316. According to the Ministry of Health, this is the first time Malaysia recorded less than 3,000 cases since 13th January 2021. This is also the lowest recorded daily new cases since 11th January when Malaysia recorded 2,232 cases. There are 13 new deaths reported and the death toll is now 909.

The Ministry of Health has reported 3,887 new recoveries and a total of 196,566 patients have recovered and discharged so far. The recovery rate is now 79.2% while the mortality rate is at 0.4%.

There are currently 50,841 active cases remaining which are receiving treatment. 289 are in ICU while 127 require respiratory support.

Out of the 2,764 new cases today, 6 are imported while 2,758 are transmitted locally. Selangor records the most with 862 cases, followed by Johor with 521 cases, Kuala Lumpur with 422 cases and Melaka with 203 cases.

As of yesterday, Malaysia’s infectivity rate (R0) is at 0.91. Melaka has the highest R0 value of 1.27, followed by Penang at 1.09 and Selangor at 1.08. Health Director-General Dr Noor Hisham expects the infectivity rate to drop to 0.5 in another week.

The Ministry of Health has identified 12 new clusters today and 11 are workplace related. Below is the full list of new clusters:

A total of 93 active clusters have recorded new cases today. The Industri Serkam cluster recorded the most with 156 cases, followed by Senai City Lapan cluster with 114 cases and Mayang Pasir cluster with 52 cases.
