MCO 2.0: Selected flight and bus ticket holders may complete their interstate travel this week

The new MCO measures are in effect from today 13th January 2021 for a period of two weeks. Interstate travel is prohibited throughout Malaysia while interdistrict travel is restricted for states placed under MCO.

During yesterday’s National Security Council briefing, Senior Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the government is allowing some leniency for selected travellers with existing bookings. If you have travel plans this week, you may complete your journey until Friday, 15th January 2021 but with permission from the Royal Malaysia Police.

The Minister said the leniency will only be given to certain specific cases with proper reasons. He gave an example where some people were visiting a sick relative at their hometown and they are scheduled to return home in two days’ time.

He said he has spoken to the police that for these cases, passengers are allowed to travel. Those who have purchased plane or bus tickets, they won’t ask them to cancel and they can proceed with their scheduled flight.

However, long-distance couples will not be allowed to travel interstate to be reunited with their partners and families. He urge long-distance couples to remain patient and the authorities may consider lifting restrictions when the situation improves.

Interstate permit form

To apply for permission for interstate travel, you can download the form via the Police’s Facebook page. You’ll need to print and submit two copies for approval. Below are the forms for MCO and CMCO areas:

To reiterate, the police is only allowing interstate travel for selected flight and bus passengers that need to complete their journey with proper seasons.
