Ahead of this year’s Consumer Electronics Show, Samsung has announced its latest generation of smart TVs for 2021 called Neo QLED, which are available in 8K and 4K variants. The new displays boast Samsung’s new Quantum Mini LED technology that features thin micro layers that are filled with LEDs that are 1/40 the height of conventional ones.

The LEDs are controlled by Samsung’s Quantum Matrix technology that enables precise control of the densely packed LEDs and prevents blooming from occurring.

According to Samsung, the combination of its Quantum Mini LED and Quantum Matrix technologies enable the Neo QLED models to increase the luminance scale to 12-bit with 4,096 steps. The company claims this results in dark areas being really dark and bright areas appearing brighter, offering a more immersive HDR viewing experience.

Samsung also said its Neo Quantum Processor brings new upscaling capabilities to the Neo QLED TVs. Given the fact there is not a lot of 8K content available, the feature uses Artificial Intelligence (AI) to upscale lower resolution content to 4K or 8K resolution.

The Verge reported that the new Neo QLED range consists of two 8K models: the QN900A and QN800A. Meanwhile, there will be three 4K TVs: the QN95A, QN90A and QN85A. Samsung however, did provide details about the sizes the various models will be available in.

Both models are set to come with features like Samsung Health that pairs with its new Smart Trainer feature that tracks and analyses your posture during workouts; essentially acting like a personal trainer. There’s also the new Super Ultrawide GameView allows gamers to play at an ultrawide 32:9 aspect ratio for an immersive gaming experience.

It is worth mentioning that the smart TVs also come with a solar-powered remote control. As its name implies, you can recharge the remote just by exposing it to indoor or outdoor light. Alternatively, you can charge via USB.

At present, there is no information about pricing or availability for any of Samsung’s Neo QLED smart TVs. But we should be hearing more details from Samsung in the coming months.
