The Amazfit GTS 2 Mini is coming to Malaysia at just over half the price of its bigger sibling

Amazfit, the brand under which Huami sells its wearables, is steadily growing a reputation for its affordable, and generally well-performing smartwatches. Part of the strategy seems to be to flood the market with models catering to every segment, and the company has now announced the Amazfit GTS 2 Mini—just a couple of months after the launch of its older sibling, the Amazfit GTS 2.

So, what does the Mini mean with regards to the GTS 2 Mini? Is this a better option than the GTS 2? Read on to find out.

Price and availability

The Amazfit GTS 2 Mini is already open for pre-orders in the U.S., and we can confirm that official sales for the smartwatch have started in Malaysia via Amazfit’s official store on Shopee. Pricing in Malaysia is as follows:

Amazfit GTS 2 Mini – RM399

There are three colourways available: Midnight Black, Flamingo Pink, and Sage Green. Meanwhile, there appears to only a single size available.

Amazfit GTS 2 Mini specs

Just like the GTS 2, the Amazfit GTS 2 Mini uses an AMOLED display, although it’s a little smaller than its older sibling at 1.55″ with a resolution of 354×306 pixels. Meanwhile, battery life is rated at up to 14 days on a single charge, with a full charge taking around two hours. You can also take the smartwatch on swims, with a certification of 5ATM meaning that it should be able to withstand up to 50m of submersion.

SpO2 tracking is available ia the BioTracker PPG feature, which will give you information on the saturation of oxygen in your blood. This is all the rage with smartwatches these days, and Amazfit has done well to include it on the affordable GTS 2 Mini.

Meanwhile, there’s also built-in GPS—which makes this a suitable standalone device if you plan to track your runs or hikes. Without built-in GPS, runners usually need to bring their smartphones with them to track their runs, so this should come in handy for for fitness enthusiasts out there. Over 70 sports modes are also available, and you should be covered for almost every sport out there.

Amazfit promises that the GTS 2 Mini will give you an idea about how stress impacts your health, while the watch also features female cycle tracking that identifies fertile days, and insights into their menstrual cycles. Couple that with sleep tracking—with analysis of different sleep stages—and you have a pretty complete picture of your health on the smartwatch.

Finally, the GTS 2 Mini comes with a PAI health assessment system, which basically processes health data into a single score.

So, what do you think? Compared to the Amazfit GTS 2, you’re missing out on a couple of things. First of all, the GTS 2 Mini does not have built-in storage, so you won’t be able to store offline songs/podcasts, although you can still control music playback from your phone remotely. Plus, it has a slightly smaller display and battery, so that’s also something to consider.

But at a price of RM399, it’s just over half the price of the RM699-priced Amazfit GTS 2—and this might just be the more value-for-money option. Let us know in the comments section below if you agree… or even if you don’t.
