COVID-19: New record high with 2,593 new cases today. 965 in Selangor, 571 in Johor

Malaysia has recorded 2,593 new COVID-19 cases today which brings the total number of infections to 125,438. Today marks a new record high since the start of the pandemic. There are 4 new deaths reported and the death toll is now 513.

The Ministry of Health has reported 1,129 new recoveries and a total of 100,578 patients have recovered and discharged so far. The recovery rate is now 80.2% while the mortality rate is now 0.4%.

There are currently 24,347 active cases remaining which are receiving treatment. 141 are in ICU while 67 require respiratory support.

Out of the 2,593 new cases today, 4 are imported while 2,589 are transmitted locally. Selangor recorded the most with 965 new cases, followed by Johor with 571 new cases, Sabah with 405 new cases and Kuala Lumpur with 254 new cases.

The Ministry of Health has identified 13 new clusters today. This include Dataran Utas cluster in Selangor, Casa Permai cluster in Selangor, Medan Jasa cluster which covers Selangor, Perak and Kuala Lumpur, Tasik Utama cluster which covers Negeri Sembilan and Selangor, Firma cluster in Johor, Persiaran Teknologi cluster in Johor, Bersepadu cluster in Johor, Jalan Padu in Johor, Kampung Pitas cluster in Sabah, Ikan Emas cluster in Kuala Lumpur, Kayuh cluster in Kuala Lumpur, Jalan Seputeh cluster in Kuala Lumpur and Anak Air cluster in Melaka. 10 out of 13 new clusters are workplace related.

A total of 62 active clusters have recorded new cases today. The Seri Lanang cluster reported the most with 504 cases, followed by Bukit Pasir cluster with 283 cases and Teratai cluster with 85 cases.

The Seri Lanang cluster was first identified on 29th December 2020 and it is a workplace related cluster involving the districts of Klang, Gombak, Kuala Selangor and Petaling in Selangor.

According to the Health DG, Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, the current COVID-19 infectivity rate is more than 1.2.
