Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra fixes a major screen limitation found on the Galaxy S20 Ultra

The Galaxy S20 series was Samsung’s first flagship devices to push a high 120Hz screen refresh rate. Unfortunately, the fluid screen experience can only be enjoyed on a lower Full HD+ resolution. This meant that you’ll have to choose between a high resolution Quad HD+ mode with a lower 60Hz refresh rate, or settle for a lower Full HD+ resolution to enjoy a faster 120Hz refresh rate.

It appears that you won’t need to compromise on the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra based on a screenshot shared by serial leakster Ice Universe. From the looks of it, you are able to set the Galaxy S21 Ultra at Quad HD+ while running at a 120Hz refresh rate, just like the Oppo Find X2 Pro.

As shown above, the Motion smoothness on the Galaxy S21 Ultra can be set to “Adaptive” in WQHD+ resolution, which allows the screen to dynamically adjust the screen refresh rate according to usage. This would help to preserve battery life as it will only push a higher 90Hz or 120Hz for selected scenarios such as playing games.

It’s also worth pointing out that only the Galaxy S21 Ultra will be able to push Quad HD+ resolution. The lower two models – the S21 and S21+, are expected to come with Full HD+ AMOLED panels but both are still capable of pushing 120Hz refresh rate.

The Samsung Galaxy S21 series will be officially revealed on the 14th of January 2021 and we expect pre-orders to start in Malaysia very soon. Since last year’s Galaxy S20 Ultra with 128GB storage was released with a hefty RM4,999 price tag, do expect the new S21 Ultra to cost more than RM5,000. On top of that, the device is also expected to be Samsung’s first flagship smartphone to go on sale without chargers and earphones included in the box.
