The Galaxy Buds Pro are expected to be launched by Samsung along with the Galaxy S21 series soon, and leaks and rumours are unsurprisingly springing up all over the internet as we get closer to launch. This includes the potential for an interesting, AirPods Pro-like “3D spatial audio” feature, along with active noise cancelling (ANC) technology—a feature that is available on most premium TWS headphones these days.
This has seemingly been confirmed by an unboxing video of the Buds, although it isn’t clear how Digital Slang managed to get his hands on a real-life set. Everything looks legit enough, and the YouTuber pairs the Galaxy Buds Pro to a Galaxy Z Fold 2 to set up, and to tweak certain settings. Before we get into his first impressions, have a look at the unboxing video:
From his experience, the YouTuber says that the Buds Pro sound “fantastic”, with clear highs and mids and punchy bass to round things off. There’s also plenty of volume (which is a good thing, particularly for those who like to listen to music “above the recommended level).
ANC is a really big deal when it comes to headphones these days, and the tech is generally considered to be the gold standard when it comes to noise cancelling technologies. For the Galaxy Buds Pro, Digital Slang says he was “not that impressed” with the ANC capabilities of Samsung’s upcoming TWS headphones.
“ANC is good, it’s not the best, and it’s not comparable to the AirPods Pro.”
Meanwhile, the Ambient sound mode works “really well”, along with in-app adjustments that you can make via a Galaxy smartphone. The YouTuber says that these are “one of the best” that he’s ever used, although he plans to compare this to the AirPods Pro in the coming days.
All in all, first impressions were very good. Other notable features that he discusses are the improved IPX7 water resistance, wireless charging, five hours of battery life on a single charge (on the Buds, minus the charging case)—and the touch controls work very nicely, apparently. Logically, the YouTuber says that he’ll have to spend a bit more time reviewing the earbuds before making a judgement call if it is worth a buy, but the early signs are good.
In any case, if you’re keen to try it out for yourself, the Samsung Galaxy S21 has been confirmed to be launching on the 14th of January 2021, and a big possibility is that Samsung announces the Galaxy Buds Pro alongside their latest flagship smartphone. Meanwhile, it’s also worth noting that Samsung has included new TWS headphones as part of pre-order deals in the past, so be sure to look out for that.
