[ UPDATE 4/01/2021 14:30 ]: Redmi 9T launch has been confirmed for 8 January at 8PM. Here’s how to watch it live.

The Redmi 9T is the latest budget smartphone from Xiaomi, and it is slated to launch in Malaysia on 8 January. Ahead of the launch, we now have a clearer look at the 9T as it was reported that the phone has appeared in an unboxing video on YouTube, though it has since been removed.

There are, however, screenshots captured from the video that gives us a close look at the 9T with one showing it next to the Poco M3. From what we can see, the latest budget phone from Xiaomi sports a massive recessed Redmi text on the back cover. In addition, the company has opted for a matte material on the Redmi instead of the faux leather pattern used on the Poco.

While both sport different designs, the Redmi 9T is speculated to have similar specs as the Poco M3. The 9T is said to feature a 6.53″ Full HD+ IPS display and comes with a large 6,000 mAh battery.

It is also expected to come powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 chip and equipped up to 6GB of RAM and up to 128GB of storage, which is also expandable via microSD card.

The latest Redmi model is said to come with a total of five cameras with an 8MP selfie shooter inside the notch. On the rear, the 9T is expected to feature a 48MP primary camera along with two 2MP shooters for macro and depth effects. But the 9T is said to come with an additional 8MP camera for capturing ultra-wide-angle shots.

We previously reported that Xiaomi Malaysia had teased a new Redmi smartphone will be arriving at our shores soon. Xiaomi announced a contest on its Facebook page, where it was giving 10 units of a new Redmi smartphone, running from 30 December 2020 to 7 January 2021.

Based on the teaser image, the camera bump looks similar to the leaked Redmi 9T and it’s likely that we will be seeing the same model in Malaysia soon when it launches.

What do you think about the Redmi 9T? If it’s priced the same as the Poco M3, which model would you pick?
