COVID-19: New record high with 2,335 new cases today, KL and Selangor record over 700 cases each

Malaysia has recorded 2,335 new COVID-19 cases today which brings the total number of infections to 103,900. There are 2 new deaths reported and the death toll is now 451.

The Ministry of Health has reported 874 new recoveries and a total of 83,414 patients have recovered and discharged so far. The recovery rate is now 80.3% while the mortality rate is now 0.43%.

There are currently 20,035 active cases remaining which are receiving treatment. 108 are in ICU while 50 require respiratory support.

Out of the 2,335 new COVID-19 cases reported today, 11 are imported while 2,324 are transmitted locally. Kuala Lumpur recorded the most with 728 new cases, followed by Selangor with 710 cases, Johor with 412 cases and Sabah with 248 cases.

For the first time, Malaysia has breached the 2,300 mark for new COVID-19 cases reported in a day. The previous record of 2,234 new cases in a day was recorded on the 10th December 2020.

According to the Ministry of Health, a total of 11 new clusters have been identified today. This include Jalan Seng construction site cluster in Kuala Lumpur, Pagar Siput cluster in Johor, Subang plastic cluster in Selangor, Halban cluster in Kelantan, Lis Putih cluster in Penang, Sentosa Residensi cluster in Penang, Seregam Chepa cluster in Kelantan, Pagar Bentong cluster in Pahang, Jalan Asam cluster in Selangor, Sungai Redan cluster in Johor and Semambu cluster in Pahang.

A total of 59 active clusters have recorded new COVID-19 cases today. The newly identified Jalan Seng construction site cluster recorded the most with 232 cases, followed by Tampoi Jaya cluster with 218 cases and Jalan Harapan prison cluster with 156 cases.
