Samsung’s new Exynos chip isn’t crap according to Galaxy S21 benchmark result

Samsung has received a lot of criticism this year due to its Exynos 990 chip that’s powering the Galaxy S20 and Note 20 series for global markets. This was due to a noticeable performance and battery life gap when compared to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 865 and 865+ processors.

For the next generation Galaxy devices, Samsung doesn’t want to repeat its mistake and they are stepping things up for its next generation Exynos 2100 processor. The new chip is expected to use ARM’s Cortex X1 super core which is also paired with 3 performance and 4 efficiency cores, and it’s based on a 5nm process.

Serial leakster Ice Universe has recently shared a Geekbench result for a Galaxy S21 which reveals an impressive score of 1,089 for single-core and 3,963 for multi-core. Apple’s 5nm A14 Bionic chip still performed better with a score of 1,603 points for single-core and 4,187 for multi-score on Geekbench.

When compared side by side with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 888, the Exynos 2100 appears to be the better performer. The upcoming Xiaomi Mi 11 with a Snapdragon 888 processor has also appeared on Geekbench with a score of 1,131 for single-core and 3,822 for multi-score tests.

Overall, the new chip looks good in raw benchmark numbers and it does appear that “Exynos is back” for 2021. Hopefully, the new Exynos chip on the Galaxy S21 series will live up to expectations especially when it comes to real world performance and battery life.

Samsung will reveal more details for the Exynos 2100 chip on 12th January 2021, while the Galaxy S21 series could be announced as early as 14th January.

Would this settle the Snapdragon vs Exynos debate for the next Galaxy S21? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
