Shortly after dropping clear renders of the Samsung Galaxy S21, reliable leakster Roland Quandt has confirmed a controversial move by the Korean smartphone maker. Following Apple’s bold decision to exclude power adapters and earpods for its new iPhone, Samsung appears to be the next smartphone maker to do the same thing.
Roland who has a reputation of providing accurate leaks for Samsung devices has shared that all three models including the top-of-the-line Galaxy S21 Ultra will not come with a charger, at least for the European market. On top of that, he also said there won’t be any headphones or cover included in the box.
Shortly after the iPhone 12 was announced, several brands including Samsung had made fun of Apple for omitting the charger amidst reports that the Korean smartphone maker was considering to exclude chargers for its future devices. Just a few weeks ago, several sources have confirmed that the S21 will definitely ship without a charger and a quick check reveals Samsung has already removed its social posting that mocked the iPhone 12’s lack of a charger.
The removal of wired headphones is understandable as Samsung has been pushing its wireless Galaxy Buds headphones since the Galaxy S10. On top of that, it is very likely that Samsung would continue to bundle its Galaxy Buds with every pre-order purchase just like its predecessor.
However, the move to remove the charger is something Samsung fans may not be too happy about. This year alone, Samsung has been bundling chargers that do not offer the fastest charging potential for its new flagship phones. For example, the Galaxy S20 Ultra and Note 20 Ultra are only shipped with a slower 25W charger despite both phones are capable to support faster 45W fast charging.
If you want the fastest charging speed, you’ll have to purchase the 45W power adapter and a 5A-rated USB-C cable separately. Similarly, the Galaxy S20 FE is capable of 25W charging but Samsung only provides a 15W power adapter.
Samsung’s USB-C earphones that are tuned by AKG are currently priced at RM99 while the original Super Fast Charge 25W charger with a USB-C to USB-C cable is priced at RM129. Thankfully, Samsung is using the Power Delivery standard for fast charging which is more universally accepted.
Instead of buying the original charger, you can purchase a third party unit with multiple ports from reputable brands. We reckon Samsung Malaysia might provide a free wired or wireless charger as part of its pre-order campaign.
As highlighted by Roland, the Galaxy S21 series will be announced earlier than usual and the Galaxy Unpacked 2021 event may take place as early as 14th January 2021. Since Malaysia is a key market, we expect pre-orders to begin shortly after the global launch.
