Malaysia has recorded 1,295 new COVID-19 cases today which brings the total number of infections to 87,913. There are 7 new deaths reported and the death toll is now 429.
The Ministry of Health has reported 1,052 new recoveries and a total of 72,733 patients have recovered and discharged so far. The recovery rate is now 82.7% while the mortality rate is now 0.5%.
There are currently 14,751 active cases remaining which are receiving treatment. 113 are in ICU while 53 require respiratory support.
Out of the 1,295 new COVID-19 cases reported today, 10 are imported while 1,285 are transmitted locally. Selangor recorded the most with 481 cases, followed by Sabah with 268 cases, Kuala Lumpur with 232 cases and Johor with 105 cases. There are no new cases reported in Sarawak and Perlis today.
The Ministry of Health has identified 8 new clusters today. This include Puncak Galaksi cluster in Selangor, Bukit Punai cluster in Sabah, Permai construction site cluster in Kuala Lumpur, Matahari construction site cluster in Kuala Lumpur, Laut construction site cluster in Kuala Lumpur, Cahaya Mahsuri cluster in Johor, Seri Tasik cluster in Perak and Inten cluster in Pahang.
A total of 51 active clusters have recorded new cases today. The Teratai cluster recorded the most with 143 new cases, followed by Usaha cluster with 79 cases and Jalan Stadium construction site cluster with 63 cases.
Malaysia has overtaken China in total number of confirmed positive cases. As of 15th December, China has 86,770 confirmed cases and a total of 4,634 deaths recorded which is more than 10x the number of COVID-19 deaths recorded in Malaysia.
