COVID-19: New cases jump to 1,937 today, over 1,000 cases in the Klang Valley

Malaysia has recorded 1,937 new COVID-19 cases today which brings the total number of infections to 82,246. There are 9 new deaths reported and the death toll is now 411.

The Ministry of Health has reported 911 new recoveries and a total of 68,084 patients have recovered and discharged so far. The recovery rate is now 82.8% while the mortality rate is now 0.5%.

There are currently 13,751 active cases remaining which are receiving treatment. 121 are in ICU while 66 require respiratory support.

Out of the 1,937 new COVID-19 cases reported today, 2 are imported while 1,935 are transmitted locally. Selangor recorded the most with 823 cases, followed by Sabah with 429 cases, Kuala Lumpur with 238 cases, Johor with 105 cases and Penang with 102 cases.

The Ministry of Health has identified 3 new clusters today. This include Bukit Gemok cluster in Sabah, Cendana construction site cluster in Kuala Lumpur and Dang Mutiara cluster in Selangor.

A total of 56 active clusters have recorded new COVID-19 cases today. The Jalan Harapan prison cluster recorded the most with 565 cases, followed by Rumah Merah cluster with 112 cases and Berangan construction site cluster with 69 new cases.

The Jalan Harapan prison cluster is linked to Sungai Buloh prison and was first identified on 21st November 2020. Other prison linked clusters have also recorded new cases today which include Rumah Merah cluster (112 cases), Tembok cluster (43 cases) and Seberang Perai Prison cluster (5 cases).
