11.12.2020 is finally here and this means the highly anticipated Sony PlayStation 5 has officially arrived in Malaysia. Despite the official launch happening today, you’ll be disappointed if you’re planning to buy one at an authorised Sony Store near you.
According to Sony Malaysia, there won’t be any new units available for in-store purchase. However, those that have pre-ordered their PS5 earlier can collect their console at their respective Sony outlet. As usual, new PS5 owners who pre-ordered are reminded to follow the SOP and to adhere to social distancing rules.
At the moment, the PS5 is still out of stock on the official Sony online store. If you’re interested to get one, Sony urge its customers to check back online for future updates on its stock availability.
To recap, the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition is officially priced in Malaysia at RM1,869 while the version with a Ultra HD Blu-ray drive is priced at RM2,299.

Sony is also offering exclusive PS5 game titles that are priced from RM209. Below are the list of launch day games from SIE Worldwide Studios:
- Astro’s Playroom (Japan Studio) – pre-installed on PS5
- Demon’s Souls (Bluepoint Games / Japan Studio) – RM299
- Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales (Insomniac Games) – RM209
- Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition (Insomniac Games) – RM299
- Sackboy A Big Adventure (Sumo Digital / XDEV) – RM249
To recap, the PS5 runs on a custom 8-core AMD Zen 2 CPU with 16GB GDDR6 RAM and 825GB of SSD storage. It can support 4K gaming at 120Hz as well as gameplay at 8K resolution. New for the PS5 is its an improved DualSense Wireless Controller that offers a more realistic haptic feedback. On top of that, the PS5 also doubles as a digital media centre as it allows you to stream content from Apple TV, Disney+, Netflix, Spotify, Twitch and YouTube.
