Malaysia has recorded 2,234 new COVID-19 cases today which brings the total number of infections to 78,499. There are 3 new deaths reported and the death toll is now 396.
The Ministry of Health has reported 1,112 new recoveries and a total of 66,236 patients have recovered and discharged so far. The recovery rate is now 84.4% while the mortality rate is now 0.5.%
There are currently 11,867 active cases remaining which are receiving treatment. 124 are in ICU while 60 require respiratory support.
Out of the 2,234 new COVID-19 cases today, 5 are imported while 2,229 are transmitted locally. Selangor recorded the most with 1,428 new cases. This is followed by Sabah with 274 cases, Kuala Lumpur with 136 cases and Perak with 115 cases.
Bulk of the new cases in Selangor include 842 cases from the Seruling cluster and 315 cases from the Hentian cluster. The Seruling cluster was first identified on 8th December and it covers the districts of Klang, Hulu Selangor and Petaling. Meanwhile, Hentian cluster was identified on 19th October which involves Hulu Langat district in Selangor.
The last time Malaysia recorded over 2,000 cases was on 24th November with 2,188 cases.
The Ministry of Health has identified 5 new clusters today. This include Jalan Bukit construction site cluster in Selangor, Condong construction site cluster in Kuala Lumpur, Jalan Stadium construction site in Kuala Lumpur, Jalan Dalam cluster in Johor and Tenun Merah cluster in Johor.
A total of 57 active clusters have reported new cases today. Besides Seruling (843 cases) and Hentian (315 cases), Tembok cluster has recorded 104 new cases today.
