Who says a 5G smartphone has to be expensive?

This post is brought to you by Samsung Malaysia.

The future of mobile connectivity is 5G. That said, the perception especially around new technology is that it can be expensive if you want to be among the first to experience it. High-end 5G flagship smartphones, for example, can cost upwards of RM3,000. But that doesn’t always have to be the case because Samsung’s just launched their most affordable 5G smartphone yet, the Galaxy A42 5G.

And the best part? Samsung also designed it around their three important pillars of what makes a mid-range handset good: an awesome screen, an awesome camera and a long lasting battery.

Super AMOLED is what you want for a vivid viewing experience

Samsung makes some of the best smartphone screens in the business. And part of what makes their screens look so good is their signature Super AMOLED displays which also make an appearance on the Galaxy A42 5G. This smartphone sports a 6.6” Super AMOLED HD+ display up front with really slim bezels.

Its purpose is to give you a vivid, uninterrupted viewing experience that’ll immerse you in whatever content you consume on your mobile device. At 6.6 inches, it gives users a lot of screen real estate to work with, but the slim bezels keep the footprint small so it’s easier to hold in the hand.

A high resolution quad camera for your photography needs

For photos, you’re getting a 48MP quad camera system at the back of the Galaxy A42 5G. The star of the show is of course the 48MP main camera with an f/1.8 aperture lens. Alongside that, you’re getting an 8MP ultra-wide camera with a 123-degree field of view which is similar to the human eye. That means it’ll be super useful for group shots or architecture.

Ultra-Wide Camera

On the other hand, a 5MP macro camera gets you those super detailed close-up photos. Finally, there’s a 5MP depth sensor to help you take stunning portraits with background blur.

Battery to keep you going

One of the most, if not the most important feature of a smartphone must be the battery. After all, what use is a smartphone if it doesn’t have power? In the Galaxy A42 5G’s case, battery life should not be an issue. Samsung packed a large 5,000 mAh cell into their most affordable 5G smartphone so that it has the power to keep up with you.

What’s more, this phone also supports 15W fast-charging so you can also top it up in a jiffy. No need to wait around for hours on end just to charge your device.

Performance where it matters

Of course, who could forget that at the heart of it all, the Samsung Galaxy A42 5G processor features a Snapdragon 750G 5G processor. This capable mid-range processor is paired with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage which is always nice to see. On top of that, if you need more space, you can always add on a microSD card—this phone supports up to 1TB of extra storage.

Samsung also built in other useful features like an AI-based game booster to improve gaming performance, as well as biometric authentication with Samsung Knox. This means you can unlock your smartphone with either the in-display fingerprint scanner or via face unlock.

Leveraging Samsung’s extensive ecosystem, the company is also able to give the Galaxy A42 5G support for Samsung Pay so you can “transform” your smartphone into a credit card. Samsung Pay is accepted at any payment terminal that supports NFC, so you can leave your cards and cash at home and pay using just your phone.

Affordable 5G, capable smartphone

So, as you can see the Galaxy A42 5G is not only Samsung’s most affordable 5G handset, it is also a capable device in its own right. And, for the price of RM1,599, it serves its main purpose well: lower the barrier of entry today for the technology of tomorrow.
