Zoo Negara has experienced a number of financial problems, with the COVID-19 pandemic affecting the zoo’s ability to meet monthly operational costs of up to RM1 million. Last month, the opened up its animal “adoption” programme to Lazada and Shopee, with individuals given the ability to contribute to the animals’ welfare and upkeep.
Now, Lazada is collaborating with Zoo Negara to organise a virtual tour at Zoo Negara, along with subsidised donations for a limited number of donors. The tour will be hosted by Dr Jason Leong, the doctor-turned-comedian who will be visiting (and showcasing) feeding sessions for a number of the zoo’s animals—including Samba the lion, Vani the white tiger, and other beautiful residents at the zoo.
The virtual tour will be broadcast over LazLive on the 11th of December 2020, from 10.30am till 11.30am—and no, you won’t have to pay anything to join. At each station that Dr Leong visits, viewers will be given the chance to donate in real-time. The first 50 donors who donate RM25 at each location will get RM25 worth of Lazada Wallet 12.12 rebates to shop, along with “Buy 1, Get 2” promos for Lazada’s 12.12 festival.
Meanwhile, donations of over RM50 will net you an “Adopt an Animal” e-certificate from Zoo Negara and a voucher to use in the zoo. This is similar to the zoo’s virtual adoption programme, as we mentioned above, and is another effort by Zoo Negara to alleviate recently-reported financial issues.
Additionally, you can also make donations to a number of NGOs under LazadaForGood from now until the 11th of December 2020, including Unicef, Mercy Malaysia, and of course, Zoo Negara. All donations made will offer you a chance at winning the Make-Your-Wish contest, with the prize being a virtual hangout with local celebrities.
“Winners will be able to do fun one-on-one virtual activities, including aTikTok duet with Ain Edruce, a private concert with Ayda Jebat, a personal performance byIsmail Izzani, an all-expenses-paid dinner date with Sean Lee, and freshly baked goods personally curated by Joey Leong.”
