Apple Product(Red) devices have always usually supported the non-profit organisation (Red)’s fight against HIV/AIDS in Africa. But now, purchasing a red edition iPhone or Apple Watch means that you’ll also be helping to protect communities from COVID-19.

“This year, communities around the world are grappling with HIV/AIDS as they also work to respond and protect against COVID-19, particularly for vulnerable populations. COVID-19 has created challenges in accessing care, diagnostics, and supplies, often disrupting crucial HIV/AIDS programs,” wrote Apple.

Through 30 June 2021, Apple will direct 100% of eligible proceeds from (Product)Red purchases to the Global Fund’s COVID-19 Response. The relief funds will alleviate the impact of the virus on the communities most affected by HIV/AIDS, and also provide critical support in health systems threatened by the COVID-19 outbreak.

The funds have already helped by allowing additional contact tracing in South Africa, secure PPE and emergency medical equipment for health workers in Ghana, and purchased motorbikes for deliver HIV treatments to communities that are unable to seek in-person health services. Apple also donated PPE to Zambia’s Ministry of Health, including the masks and face shields designed by Apple.

In 2006, Apple joined (Red) to end the HIV/AIDS epidemic in sub-Saharan Africa. Over the last 14 years, the partnership has led to almost USD 250 million (RM1 billion) in donations for the Global Fund’s HIV/AIDS programs that offer prevention, testing, and counselling services.

You can purchase Apple’s Product(Red) devices like the iPhone 12, the iPhone 12 mini, and the Apple Watch Series 6. The company is will also be donating USD 1 (RM4.07) for every purchase made with Apple Pay. While Apple Pay still isn’t a thing in Malaysia, you can still purchase a Product(Red) device to help contribute to the COVID-19 and HIV/AIDS fund.
