Virtual runs are all the rage now, aren’t they? Due to COVID-19-related restrictions, marathon event organisers have gone virtual—but of course, this wouldn’t be possible without the technology behind fitness trackers and smartwatches. As such, brands such as Oppo have followed Standard Chartered‘s move to organise virtual marathons; now, Biib is partnering up with Samsung, Universal Music Malaysia, JD Sports, and Fitness First for the (virtual) Race of the Stars: Fit with Music.
As we mentioned in an earlier article, the Galaxy Watch Fit 2 is now available in Malaysia at a price of RM179—although you can sign up for the Run of the Stars event and get Samsung’s new wearable for free.
How to sign up
The Race of the Stars: Fit with Music event will run until the 23rd of December 2020, and registrations are open until the 10th of December 2020. You can join the event by signing up at Biib’s website, and there are multiple packages available:
As you can see, purchasers of the Star Racer S package (at RM168.90) are entitled to a free Galaxy Fit 2, which means that this might be the healthiest way to get a quick discount for Samsung’s latest fitness band. Plus, of course, you’ll have an entry into a virtual run to boost/test your fitness.
Other rewards include discount vouchers for Samsung wearables, and two chances at the Grand Draw. Prizes for the draw include the Galaxy Note 20 5G, Galaxy Tab S6 Lite, Galaxy S20 FE, and other Galaxy device such as the Watch Active 2 and Buds+ BTS edition. Vouchers from sports retailer JD are also up for grabs.
How to compete
As per its name, the event gives you the opportunity to “run with the stars”, namely, Malaysian influencers and celebrities—or you can create your own team. The aim is to achieve a team goal of 999km, although there are also individual requirements that give you chances at the prizes stated above. Participants who complete both team and individual requirements will be given a Finisher Tee to commemorate the event.
To join, you’ll need to use a wearable device that can track distance-based activities such as walking, running, or even hiking. Biib also says that the following info is required:
- distance
- duration
- pace
- date/time
- running route (outdoor only)
Do note that step tracking estimated distance is not accepted for the event. Then, you can submit your results on the Biib website via supported third party apps such as the Garmin or Samsung Health apps, or submit data manually on the Biib website.
