OnePlus has launched their latest true wireless (TWS) in-ear earbuds, the OnePlus Buds Z. These are OnePlus’ second pair of TWS earbuds that were announced alongside the OnePlus 8T in October. Most notably, the new earbuds are cheaper than their predecessor, the OnePlus Buds.
The OnePlus Buds Z is only available in white and the price has been set for RM229 in Malaysia. There is also a special edition design by Steven Harrington, however there is no word whether OnePlus will bring this variant to our shores. The earbuds are set to be sold exclusively on OnePlus’ Lazada store from 12 December, 12AM.
OnePlus fans can get the Buds Z for only RM199 via Lazada’s ‘Chup Dulu’ promo. Just place a RM19.90 deposit between 1-11 December and pay the balance on 12 December.
What’s there to know about OnePlus’ latest TWS earbuds? For one, they have an in-ear design that should provide passive noise isolation. The earbuds come with three silicone tips, so you can pick out a pair that best fit your ears.
Moreover, the Buds Z comes with an IP55 rating, making it water and sweat resistant. This an improvement over the OnePlus Buds which only had an IPX4 rating. The earbuds are also said to have a hydrophobic nano-coating that repels water that is claimed to help protect it from corrosion.
On the inside, the earbuds come with a 10mm dynamic driver that is claimed by OnePlus to offer richer and louder bass. Besides that, it comes with a new Bass Boost technology and “3D audio” using Dolby Atmos that is supposed to offer better sound staging.
When it comes to battery life, the new Buds Z promise up to 20 hours of playback time with the included charging case. The earbuds themselves are said to offer up to five hours of playback on a single charge. Adding to that, OnePlus said a quick 10 minutes charge offers an additional three hours of audio playback.
It is worth noting that the Buds Z’s battery life is shorter compared to the OnePlus Buds which promises up to seven hours on a single charge with the earbuds and up to 30 hours of total usage with the charging case.
Given that the affordable price tag of the Buds Z, it should come to no surprise that it does not come with any active noise cancellation (ANC). Also, the charging case does not offer wireless charging.
However, OnePlus said the two included microphones on the earbuds should help reduce environmental noise while improving voice and video calls.
If you are into playing mobile games, the new OnePlus TWS earbuds promises ultra-low latency of 103ms that is supposed to help synchronise the sound with the action on screen. Take note that this feature is only available in Fnatic Mode, OnePlus’ in-house gaming mode, when it is enabled on a compatible OnePlus model.
Last, but not least, you get Google Assistant access with the earbuds when connected with an Android smartphone. Just double tap it to activate the assistant.
