International travel, beyond select cases, remains restricted for now. However, the government recently allocated RM200 million to the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia (MOTAC) to aid the stimulus package under the Tourism Recovery Plan as part of Budget 2021.

As reported by Bernama, Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Dato’ Seri Nancy Shukri said that initiatives to assist those in the tourism industry would be implemented soon—including discounts for domestic destinations. While international travel may be restricted, Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob earlier said that interstate travel within and between states designated as COVID-19 green zones will be allowed from 22 November 2020.

Now, two major airlines in Malaysia have come up with domestic travel promotions in collaboration with MOTAC under the Stimulus Recovery Plan.

AirAsia

AirAsia will be distributing RM50 e-vouchers to 24,000 domestic travellers within Malaysia. This is part of the Cuti-Cuti Malaysia campaign and MOTAC’s Stimulus Recovery Plan, and the vouchers are intended to invigorate the domestic tourism industry.

According to Riad Asmat, CEO AirAsia Malaysia:

“AirAsia applauds the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) for taking proactive steps in announcing a detailed Stimulus Recovery Plan to reinvigorate the national economy through domestic tourism, which involves the Cuti-Cuti Malaysia campaign and cooperation with travel industry players.”

The e-vouchers will be available to the public on AirAsia’s website “very soon”, although they haven’t provided details on redemption or eligibility requirements for now. You can keep updated on developments on the airlines’ official Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram accounts.

Malaysia Airlines

Meanwhile, Malaysia Airlines is also offering domestic flight discounts as part of the Stimulus Cuti Malaysia campaign. Until the 8th of December 2020, eligible Malaysians with a valid NRIC will be able to claim a discount of RM50 per leg—up to RM200 per passenger—for domestic flight purchases in Malaysia.

“For example: From Penang to Kuantan via KL, it’s two legs which is an RM100 discount. If this includes a return journey, you can claim up to RM200 discount.”

The flights must be booked on the official site, and the eligible travel period for this promo runs until 30 June 2021. For the full terms and conditions, click here.

Additionally, Enrich members who book and purchase full fare tickets within Malaysia until the 8th of December 2020 and complete the journey are eligible for 500 Bonus Miles under the Enrich programme. If you sign up for a new Enrich account, use the promo code ENRNEW20 to get a welcome reward.
