COVID-19: New record high with 1,884 new cases. 1,400 reported in the Klang Valley

Malaysia has recorded 1,884 new COVID-19 cases today which brings the total number of infections to 56,659. This is a new record high, beating the previous record of 1,755 cases on 6th November. There are 2 new deaths reported and the death toll is now 337.

The Ministry of Health has reported 883 new recoveries and a total of 42,480 patients have recovered and discharged so far. The recovery rate is now 75% while the mortality rate is now 0.6%.

There are currently 13,842 active COVID-19 cases remaining which are receiving treatment. 115 are in ICU while 48 require respiratory support.

Out of the 1,884 new cases today, 2 are imported while 1,882 are transmitted locally. Bulk of the new cases are reported in the Klang Valley with Teratai cluster recording 1,067 new cases, followed by Damanlela cluster with 105 cases and a new Bintang cluster with 75 cases.

Selangor recorded the most with 1203 cases, followed by Sabah with 289 cases, Kuala Lumpur with 196 cases, Perak with 81 cases and Negeri Sembilan with 41 cases.

The Ministry of Health has identified 4 new clusters today. This includes Bintang cluster which is a construction site cluster in Kuala Lumpur, Indah Mas cluster which covers both Selangor and Kuala Lumpur, Teja Kasih cluster in Perak and Kobena cluster in Johor Bahru. A total of 46 active clusters have recorded new cases today.

The Teratai cluster is the most severe with a staggering 1,067 new cases today. A total of 5,767 individuals have been screened and the cluster now has a total of 2,524 positive cases which consist of 164 Malaysians and 2,360 foreigners. 1,913 individuals are still awaiting results.
