Pokemon Go: Here’s the list of the newest updates, including seasons and Kalos Pokemon

Niantic announced some big additions to Pokemon Go (iOS, Android), including how Trainers can level up, the addition of seasons, and some new Pokemon from the Kalos region. The string of updates—which they call ‘Go Beyond’—will be added on Monday, 30 November 2020 onwards.

Seasons

According to Pokemon Go, you can expect to see a new season in the app every three months. The game will take into account which hemisphere players are located in.

For example, in the first Season, Pokemon related to winter will be appearing in the wild in the northern hemisphere. Pokemon related to summer will be appearing in the wild in the southern hemisphere. While Malaysians are stuck nearby the equator and have no seasons in real life, we’re likely to still be put in the “southern hemisphere” category by Niantic.

There will also be things like in-game events based on the season. Additionally, there will be different forms of Deerling in the wild depending on which hemisphere you’re in.

The first season will begin 1 December 2020, at 8:00am local time. To celebrate their arrival, Professor Willow will send you on a quest to research the different regions of the Pokemon world.

Kalos region Pokemon

So far, the Pokemon that have showed up in the game include Pokemon from Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, Unova, Alola, and Galar. But on Wednesday, 2 December 2020, there will also be Pokemon from the Kalos region—where Mega Evolution was first discovered.

Here’s a list of the Pokemon you can expect to encounter in the wild, through Evolution, or by hatching Eggs:

  • Chespin
  • Quilladin
  • Chesnaught
  • Fennekin
  • Braixen
  • Delphox
  • Froakie
  • Frogadier
  • Greninja
  • Bunnelby
  • Diggersby
  • Fletchling
  • Fletchinder
  • Talonflame
  • Litleo
  • Pyroar
  • Klefki (Please note that Klefki will be appearing only in France.)

Level-up redesign

Starting 30 November 2020, you’ll earn more XP from things like catching Pokemon, evolving Pokemon, hatching Eggs, and registering new Pokedex entries. This means that it will be easier for you to catch up, especially if you haven’t played the game in a while.

For Pokemon Go veterans, those who reach level 40 before Thursday, 31 December at 11:59 p.m. local time will earn the title of Legacy 40 Trainer and earn some exclusive rewards. They include Timed Research, that rewards an exclusive Gyarados Hat avatar item, and a special Legacy 40 medal.

To help Trainers reach level 40 faster, there will be a double Catch XP bonus event from 19 November at 5am to 31 December at 11:59pm. Once you’ve reached level 40, you can read through the very detailed list of challenging tasks in order to level up.

12 Days of Friendship event

Available today until Monday, 1 December at 5am, you’ll have access to some perks, like earning twice the XP from catching Pokemon. Friendship levels will also increase faster than normal through opening Gifts, trading Pokemon, or battling together in raids, Gyms, or Trainer Battles.

Additionally, you’ll receive an attack boost when you battle in raids with friends, earn increased XP from completing raids, and can open more Gifts each day. You can click here for more information.

The last big update was that Pokemon Go will end support on certain smartphones and operating systems—including older iPhones and devices that run on Android 5. The list includes iPhone 5s and iPhone 6 devices.
