COVID-19: New cases drop to 852 after 5 days of 4-digit figures

Malaysia has recorded 852 new COVID-19 cases today which brings the total number of infections to 40,209. There are 4 new deaths reported and the death toll is now 286.

The Ministry of Health has reported 825 new recoveries and a total of 28,234 patients have recovered and discharged so far. The recovery rate is now 70.2% while the mortality rate is now 0.7%.

There are currently 11,689 active cases remaining which are receiving treatment. 94 are in ICU while 32 require respiratory support.

Out of the 852 new cases today, 13 are imported while 839 are transmitted locally. In terms of local cases, Sabah records the most with 524 cases, followed by Selangor with 136 cases (excluding 12 import cases), Negeri Sembilan with 104 cases and Labuan with 23 cases (excluding 1 import case). There are no new cases in Pahang and Perlis.

The Ministry has also identified 2 new clusters today. This include Ikhtisas cluster which covers Selangor, Kelanyan and Negeri Sembilan, and Berendam cluster in Melaka.

A total of 36 active clusters have reported new cases today. The Lengkuk cluster reported the most with 69 new cases, followed by Sandakan prison cluster with 34 cases and Benteng LD cluster with 18 cases.
