COVID-19: 1,755 new cases today, highest number of cases in a day since start of pandemic

Malaysia has recorded a staggering 1,755 new COVID-19 cases today which brings the total number of infections to 38,189. Today marks the 4th consecutive day of recording more than 1,000 daily cases. There are 2 new deaths reported and the death toll is now 279.

The Ministry of Health has reported 726 new recoveries and a total of 26,380 patients have recovered and discharged so far. The recovery rate is now 69.1% while the mortality rate is now 0.7%.

There are currently 11,530 active cases remaining which are receiving treatment. 83 are in ICU while 32 require respiratory support.

Out of the 1,755 new cases today, 3 are imported while 1,752 are transmitted locally. Sabah recorded the most with 1,199 new cases followed by Pulau Pinang with 192 new cases, Selangor with 164 new cases, Labuan with 69 cases and Negeri Sembilan with 45 cases.

The Ministry has also identified 3 new clusters today. This includes Mampulut cluster in Sabah, Fores cluster which covers Selangor and Kuala Lumpur, and Rengas cluster in Perak.

A total of 51 active clusters have reported new cases today. PTS Tawau cluster in Sabah has recorded the most with 372 new cases, followed by Sandakan prison cluster with 184 new cases and Seberang Perai prison with 162 new cases.
